In addition to his role as CEO, John has served on VUIM’s Board of Trustees (currently as Ex-Officio) since 2010. He also holds leadership roles in several national organizations dedicated to advancing Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine. He currently serves as Board Chair and Executive Committee member of ACAHM, defining and supporting the high standards of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine education. John is also Treasurer and Board Member of the Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR), a leading organization promoting evidence-based acupuncture research and collaboration worldwide. Through SAR, he supports initiatives that strengthen research methods, investigate mechanisms of action, and mentor future leaders in Integrative Medicine and Whole Person Health. Furthermore, he represents VUIM as a member of the Coalition for Whole Person Health, working alongside the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to advocate for patient-centered, research-informed, interprofessional care.
Prior to his work in higher education, John led business development and product management at Arca Solutions Inc., where he redefined global sales strategies and launched a mobile-first division targeting the global print publishing industry. He also held leadership roles at Kaplan Inc.’s K–9 division in San Francisco, contributing to the development of technology-driven, blended learning models.
John holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. He is also a proud member of the Council of Korean Americans (CKA) – a national nonprofit organization that seeks to advance the voice, visibility, and influence of the Korean American community through advocacy, leadership development, and civic engagement. He also served as the 9th Vice President of the Korean American Foundation-Greater Washington from 2020 to 2022.
